The Power of Now

Being Present

THE PRESENT MOMENT

"...When you make the present moment, instead of past and future, the focal point of your life, your ability to enjoy what you do – and with it the quality of your life – increases dramatically.

Joy is the dynamic aspect of Being.

When the creative power of the universe becomes conscious of itself, it manifests as joy. You don't have to wait for something “meaningful” to come into your life so that you can finally enjoy what you do.

There is more meaning in joy than you will ever need. The “waiting to start living” syndrome is one of the most common delusions of the unconscious state.

Expansion and positive change on the outer level is much more likely to come into your life if you can enjoy what you are doing already, instead of waiting for some change so that you can start enjoying what you do.

ALIGN WITH THE POWER OF NOW

"...The great arises out of small things that are honored and cared for. Everybody's life really consists of small things. Greatness is a mental abstraction and a favorite fantasy of the ego.

The paradox is that the foundation for greatness is honoring the small things of the present moment instead of pursuing the idea of greatness.

The present moment is always all in the sense that it is always simple, but concealed within it lies the greatest power. Like the atom, it is one of the smallest things yet contains enormous power.

Only when you align yourself with the present moment do you have access to that power. Or it may be more true to say that it then has access to you and through you to this world..."

"... Anxiety, stress, and negativity cut you off from that power. The illusion that you are separate from the power that runs the universe returns.

You feel yourself to be alone again, struggling against something or trying to achieve this or that. But why did anxiety, stress, or negativity arise? Because you turned away from the present moment. And why did you do that? You thought something else was more important. You forgot your main purpose. One small error, one misperception, creates a world of suffering.

Through the present moment you have access to the power of life itself, that which has traditionally been called “God.” As soon as you turn away from it, God ceases to be a reality in your life, and and all you are left with is the mental concept of God, which some people believe in and others deny. Even belief in God is only a poor substitute for the living reality of God manifesting every moment of your life.

The trick is to learn to want everything that you have already, to love the present moment, all of it, and to prefer nothing but the present moment when you are in the present moment. Doing this , places you in a state of calmness and in a position most suitable for finding the gifts contained in the present moment so that you can rapidly grow in the direction that you wish to move to. Gratitude for all things in the past, present, and future works wonders.

SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPLEMENTING PRESENT-MOMENT AWARENESS

Give yourself the luxury of learning present-moment living by adopting the following two practices, making them a regular part of your daily life:

1. Meditation. Get rid of the excuses you've used that it's too difficult, you don't have the time or energy, and so forth . Begin today, practicing any form ofmeditation that appeals to you. You'll discover thatyou become adept at allowing interfering thoughtsto flow through in the now, rather than trying tostop or change them.

2. Yoga. Find a studio and give yourself the opportunityto experience this ancient practice. The word yogameans "union," and the practice helps you rejoin your Source and free yourself from many of your useless, habitual thoughts. Yoga helps you look into yoursoul and be present. You'll experience the oneness of everything ... you'll find peace rather than excuses.
